Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Describe, organise, analyse and prioritise the phenomena observed in the medical field
    • Know the standard physical examination, as well as recognise and describe clinical symptoms
  • Control the molecular, morphological and functional approaches of normal and pathological conditions
    • Describe these states and technical examinations to quantify them in different approaches, as well as describe the operational characteristics of these examinations
    • Integrate concepts from these different approaches in a complex biomedical problem
    • Explain the relationships between molecular, morphological and functional changes and pathological conditions, their clinical signs and symptoms
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills developed within a medical context
    • Use a rich vocabulary accurately linking concepts and words, and understand the prefixes and suffixes used in the medical field
    • Work in a team
  • Develop reasoning skills
    • Integrate reasoning in clinical approaches
    • Manage doubt and uncertainty
  • Manage resources
    • Prioritise
  • Promote health
    • Understand a global approach to health incorporating prevention and screening
    • Identify community health problems in the various teachings
  • Be a responsible practitioner
    • Base reasoning on the data taken from scientific literature (evidence-based-medicine)

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the instruction, the student will be able to describe the function of respiratory system in normal and pathological conditions. He will interrelate symptoms and signs to dysfunction and diseases. He will master all aspects of the frequent respiratory diseases. He will establish differential diagnostic and will be able to counsel patient with respect of the evidence base medicine and of the patient opinion.
In addition, he will be able to identify the main ideas of a scientific text in English (guidelines and reference books);
Communicate these elements to peers or to a more or less informed public (with different degrees of knowledge of the subject), being aware of the importance of the different registers of language; Demonstrate critical thinking in the interpretation and processing of data from the medical literature; Adopt a medical approach that integrates data from the scientific literature, clinical judgment, and the values and preferences of the patient population, with respect to the diseases addressed in the practical sessions

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Instruction consists in interactive lectures, but  also includes a  practical approach based on the use of guidelines, in small group to favor communication and collaboration skill.
Analysis of a guideline through the prism of four common diseases in the field of pulmonology.
The course adopts a CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) approach that values the co-construction of knowledge through the use of English.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q2 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face
  • Production (written work, report, essay, collection, product, etc.) - To be submitted in class
  • Oral presentation - Face-to-face

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

Weighting of the written examination corresponds to 70% of the global evaluation (Practical Work and presentation 30%)

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q2 UE assessment

Weighing of the AA Pneumology is 70% and the remaining 30% comes from l'AA guideline analysis.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Written examination - Face-to-face

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

Weighting of the written examination corresponds to 70% of the global evaluation (Practical Work and presentation of Q2: 30%)

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q3 UE assessment

Weighing of the AA Pneumology is 70% and the remaining 30% comes from l'AA guideline analysis.
