Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes of UE
Upon completion of the language courses of the second block, students will have a good command of the foreign language at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or higher.
Students will be able to:
- understand articles and reports dealing with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt a particular stance or viewpoint;
- understand literary texts;
- write informative and argumentative texts on a variety of subjects;
- identify, put into perspective and describe important events considered to be part of the culture (i.e. historical, geographical or socioeconomic) of a native speaker;
- carry out relevant research on these topics;
- report on their research and findings.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
- Written assignments drafted in accordance with academic conventions;
- Analysis and paraphrasing of information and arguments borrowed from diverse sources;
- Construction of personal arguments;
- Mastery of grammar and vocabulary.
The above may be based on:
- Listening activities based on authentic audio(visual) documents involving native speakers on varied topics;
- Reading activities based on both informative and literary texts requiring analysis of content, style and function, etc.
Prior Experience
Mastery of written English at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, or higher.

Q1 Evaluation will count for 30% of the final mark for the UE and will cover all material seen during the semester.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q3 UE assessment
The student will be required to re-sit only those elements which he/she will have failed during the first two semesters. Results obtained on assignments during the year will still be taken into account in Q3. The final result will be weighted as previously: 30% for Q1 and 70% for Q2.
