Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Use of the tools of materials thermodynamics; Understanding of the verious steps of the extraction of metals from their ore; Understanding and justification of the process routes for the extraction of various metals; Understanding of the formation of microstructures in metallica alloys and link between them and the main properties of alloys.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Part 1 - Materials thermodynamics: Phase diagrams (binary and ternary) ; Ellingham diargams; Potential-pH diagrams; Stability diagrams. Ionic solutions; chemical activity.
Part 2 - Principles and practice of extractive metallurgy: selection and preparation of ores; Methods for metal reduction; Refining processes; Case studies for the most used metals.
Part 3: Knowledge of metallic alloys: Microstructure formation; Main ferrous and non-ferrous alloys.
