Learning Outcomes of UE
Upon completion of the English language course of the third module, students will have a good command of English at the C1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. They will be able to: - identify, place and describe significant cultural events as a native speaker would (literature, Fine Arts, political, economic and social organisation, judicial system, etc.) ; - carry out competent and accurate research on these subjects ; - report on their methodology and research. - bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in the foreign language; - render the meaning of this text in a correct French; - advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents.
Content of UE
Critical analysis of genuine audio-visual documents and varied texts. Oral and written exercises. Emphasis on interaction with native speakers and on intercultural skills (preparation for linguistic immersion). Familiarization with culture and literature. Presentation of the organisation of the political, judicial and social systems, as well as of important social activities (education, media, etc.). Basic principles and techniques of sight translation and consecutive interpretation. Introduction to oral translation of a written text or a short speech. Written translation of informative and pragmatic texts. Personal work and research.
