Prérequis

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Use French perfectly in a variety of non-technical situations, both orally and in writing
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities
  • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
    • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
    • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
    • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
    • Communicate results or conclusions of these activities or projects in an appropriate manner
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
    • Give a critique of the studied literature

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this unit, students' mastery of the English language should be approaching a C1 level of proficiency in English as defined by the European Framework of Reference for Languages. Specifically, they should be able to:

- read articles and reports on contemporary issues in which a certain stance or point of view is endorsed;
- understand contemporary literary texts in prose;
- write clear, detailed texts on various topics with the aim of conveying information or developing personal arguments for or against an opinion.

Content of UE

Analysis of and commentary on a range of texts, varying in content, style, length and function.
Production of texts using compensation, verification and correction strategies, including:
- summing up information and arguments borrowed from various sources;
- developing personal arguments.

Prior Experience

A solid grounding in English language (European Framework of Reference for Languages B1+ or higher).
