      Objectives of general skills

      • Cultural and Intercultural Competency - Utilise intercultural knowledge in order to understand, analyse, and contextualise in the practice of translation.
        • Be familiar with the political, social and cultural environment of the working language and the chosen foreign languages, as well as a sustained effort to keep abreast of all new developments in those areas.

      UE's Learning outcomes

      At the end of this course, students will be able to:
      – name and identify the most prominent facts of foreign language teaching, particularly in reference to the main methodological currents;
      – understand and interpret the history of foreign language teaching by establishing links with social, political, cultural, religious phenomena

      UE Content

      Two issues are mainly addressed: 1) the major methodological currents analysed, in particular the issue of education morphosyntactic regularities of the foreign language; 2) the “institutionalisation” of language teaching (in the 19th and 20th centuries) through the specific case of Belgium, where the question of languages (languages taught, vehicular languages) affects all levels of education.
