      Objectives of general skills

      • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
        • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
        • Be proficient in another foreign language
      • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
        • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
        • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
        • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
      • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
        • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
      • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
        • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
        • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
        • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
        • Communicate results or conclusions of these activities or projects in an appropriate manner
      • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
        • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
        • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
        • Give a critique of the studied literature

      UE's Learning outcomes

      Upon completion of the language courses of the third module, students will have a good command of ............... [language] at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. [B3-2-en] Upon completion of the language courses of the third module, students will have a good command of ............... [language] at the B2+ level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. [B3-3-en] They will be able to: - identify, place and describe significant cultural events as a native speaker would (literature, Fine Arts, political, economic and social organisation, judicial system, etc.) ; - carry out competent and accurate research on these subjects ; - report on their methodology and research. - bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in the foreign language; - render the meaning of this text in a correct French; - advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents. Students will be able to : - understand texts in which the writers adopt particular stances or viewpoints as well as contemporary fiction works ; - follow complex lines of argument provided the topic is reasonably familiar ; - understand current affairs programmes and a majority of films in standard dialect ; - interact with native speakers ; - produce clear, detailed texts on a wide range of familiar subjects and explain a viewpoint on a topical issue [B3-6-en] Students will be able to : - indicate links between ideas, highlight meaningful points; and use the proper transition signals so that sentences flow into a clear, coherent whole ; - develop arguments that take into account the other speakers’ views and make connections with their statements and deductions ; - negotiate, in writing and orally, adequate solutions to the problems of everyday life. - identify, place and describe significant cultural events as a native speaker would (literature, Fine Arts, political, economic and social organisation, judicial system, etc.) ; - carry out competent and accurate research on these subjects ; - report on their methodology and research. - bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in the foreign language; - render the meaning of this text in a correct French; - advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents.
