Objectives of general skills

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages?? (language skills)
    • Use French perfectly in a variety of non-technical situations, both orally and in writing
    • Understand, reformulate and summarise documents and presentations, in French, on various topics written by experts, including those related to current affairs
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately

UE's Learning outcomes

At the end of this course, students are expected to be able to :
- consult the main French grammars reference ;
- to have a “grammatical reasoning” reflecting the shape of words (class and morphological aspects) and explaining the relationships that words and phrases keep among themselves within the sentence ;
- to master the main rules of the syntax of agreement ;
- to master the punctuation, particularly related to the syntax ;
- to apply the basic rules of spelling reform of 1990.

UE Content

Main fields of French grammar – sentence, phrase, word – parts of speech and class transfer – simple sentence – basic functional mechanisms – verb, noun and adjective phrases – sentence (multiple, complex) – prescriptive grammar – grammatical spelling – punctuation rules – spelling reform).
