UE's Learning outcomes

By the opening up of architecture and of plastic arts, the movements of vanguards come to INSPIRE modern architecture before the advent of the charter of Athens (1943).   By highlighting dynamics between artistic disciplines, the study of theories and of writings of Vanguards in the XXth century s. will aim at developing competence following: 1. allocate a major work in a vanguard, its epoch, its author (factors of cultural context);   2. analyse the residential programme according to the different logic of composition: architectonic structure and morphology, functional pronunciation and space device, implementation and constructive mode according to materials, techniques and to finishing at plastic level (see in painting or sculpture);   3. include the problems specific for architecture for every before guard and examine brought solutions in a critical way;   4. define the characteristic rules in town planning for integration in the site and effects searched in wandering;  5. to differentiate the innovations of influence between different front - gardesétudiées;   6. use the vocabulary specific for the domain of architecture and of contemporary arts.   The purpose of lesson aims by the study of theories and the analysis of architecture and of contemporary arts, to broaden knowledge and practices applicable to planning and to ARCHITECTURAL CONCEPTION in the modern built environment of the XXth century s.

UE Content

This lesson approaches the movements of vanguards in Architecture and Plastic arts which punctuate the period of the end of the XIXth century s at the end of the XXth century s" (from Crystal Palace de Paxton in 1851 to the Modulor du Corbusier in 1951):   1. From the rationalistic architecture to the liberalisation of the figure in Art nouveau and return to the order of the Art deco; 2. Of Modern architecture and first vanguards of Futurism, Constructivism, Néoplasticisme; 3. From the fonctionnalisme to Bauhaus and in the German expressionisme; 4. From the modernism in architecture to the «style international» and the brutalisme of organic and vernacular architecture.    

Studies of case of a domestic architecture in touch with a painting and a sculpture of its epoch come to develop the FACULTY Of ANALYSIS by an "autonomous" look of the student. After the analysis of painting (2 D) and of the sculpture (3D), didactic approach arrests the fundamental notions of architecture (functionality, spatialité, organises) by the reading of the graphic documents. Lecture. Analysis of case in architecture and plastic arts from documents (plans, cuts, elevation, perspectives, graphic and virtual reconstitutions) from grids of analysis in painting, sculpture and architecture.
