Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes of UE

Justification of the chosen extraction processes for various metals and comprehension of the industrial processes used therefor. The main objective is to allow students to understand the link between the operating conditions and the necessary thermodynamic conditions. The students will also be aware of the energy needs and environmental impact of metal processing.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Thermodynamic study of steelmaking and non-ferrous production processes; Phenomenological study of  stellmaking: oxygen steelmaking and refining of steel (including stainless steel), steel recycling with EAF furnace, Non-ferrous metal production processes:copper, zinc, magnesium, titanium, molybdenum, zirconium ... Theoretical and phenomenological study of metal solidification, including continuous casting; Metallurgical phenomena occuring during hot and cold rolling; Products quality; Environmental aspects.

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q2 UE assessment

  • Oral examination - Face-to-face

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

Evaluation     1 Oral exam ,70% of grade; 4h (1 hour/student);    1 Practicals reports ,20% of rgade;              1 Other evaluation ,10% of grade Comments : Active participation: this class is base on an active CLIL pedagogy  (content and language integrated learning),student activity (speaking, ..) is thus evaluated (10% of grade) Practicals, seminars, visits  Simulations on computer: grading based on quality of presentation and exactness of explanations. Visits and seminars: personal reports (astonishment) Oral exam:  on the whole content, including exercises. randomly attributed questions. Writte preparation and oral discussion.  The students need to show synthetic thinking but mostly deep understanding of the course content. Max. length: 1h including 15 minutes of oral discussion

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Oral examination - Face-to-face

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

Evaluation    1 oral exam 100% of grade; 3h (1h for the student);
Comments Oral exam +, if the student has not passed the practical part, questions on practicals and visits.
