Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
    • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis

Learning Outcomes of UE

By the end of this course, students will master numerous types of CAT tools and will be able to easily determine the strategies that need to be implemented when it comes to translating different kinds of translation projects with varying job sheets, different kinds of available resources (data, translation memories, machine translation) and different types of CAT tools. Moreover, students will be able to implement all kinds of post-editing (regardless of their language pairs), and they will be able to work in a collaborative way on any translation project, using determined CAT software, as required on the professional market. All students will be introduced to the fundamentals of MT engine creation, and they will be able to easily enter the professional market thanks to several online tools.
 

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Review of the main CAT functionalities, theoretical presentations, individual and collective tasks based on real-life translation projects, practice of several translation and post-editing types on determined documents, data collection with a view to creating MT engines, appropriate MT engine choice for any project, critical discussions and translation strategy analysis. Individual and collective creation of terminology databases and translation memories. Creation of professional online profiles, online job search.
 

Prior Experience

Ability to use the main functionalities of CAT tools; terminology database management; document alignment; reasoned use of machine translation.
