Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Upon completion of the language courses of the second block, students will have a good command of the foreign language at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or higher.
Students will be able to:
- understand articles and reports dealing with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt a particular stance or viewpoint;
- understand literary texts;
- write informative and argumentative texts on a variety of subjects;
- follow a speech or a complex argument on a variety of reasonably familiar topic;
- understand TV news and current affairs programmes as well as films;
- interact with native speakers, take part in a conversation, express and defend an opinion;
- give clear, detailed verbal descriptions on a variety of subjects;
- express and elaborate on opinions about current events;
- identify, put into perspective and describe important events considered to be part of the culture (i.e. historical, geographical or socioeconomic) of a native speaker;
- carry out relevant research on these topics;
- report on their research and findings.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
- Written assignments drafted in accordance with academic conventions;
- Analysis and paraphrasing of information and arguments borrowed from diverse sources;
- Construction of personal arguments;
- Mastery of grammar and vocabulary.
The above may be based on:
- Listening activities based on authentic audio(visual) documents involving native speakers on varied topics;
- Reading activities based on both informative and literary texts requiring analysis of content, style and function, etc.
Prior Experience
Mastery of written English at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference, or higher.
