Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Use French perfectly in a variety of non-technical situations, both orally and in writing
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities
  • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
    • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
    • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
    • Communicate results or conclusions of these activities or projects in an appropriate manner
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
    • Give a critique of the studied literature

Learning Outcomes of UE

Being able to translate in writing and orally (sight translation).

For written translation:
- Being able to show that one has understood the meaning and communicative purpose of the source text and is able to render that meaning and purpose in target language. 
- Translating into correct Spanish, respecting grammatical, lexical and spelling rules. 
- Being able to perform systematic terminology work from translation orders. 

For sight translation:
- Being able to show that one has understood the meaning and communicative purpose of the source text and that one can render that meaning and purpose in the target language. 
- Being able to formulate the translation in correct Spanish. 
- Being able to show logic (logical translation of unknown words according to the reasoning without passing them or stopping).
- Being able to show mastery of basic Spanish: some vocabulary words are taken for granted and not guessed.
- Being able to present your work in a professional manner: eye contact, intonation, conviction, no sighing or commenting on your performance.

Translation of written texts of general and specialized interest. 
Application of strategies to avoid the pitfalls of translation into the foreign language. 
Intensive and critical use of documentary and linguistic resources for native speakers. 
Use of monolingual (French and Spanish) and bilingual lexicographic and terminological sources. 
Methodology of terminology work.
