Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Understand the operation of the main static power converters (including their control) and exploit their electrical characteristics. Identify the different commutation modes of the power switches. Learn the various industrial applications of these converters. Being able to identify the basic elements of a power electronic conversion structure (a priori unknown) and conduct its analytic study (including power losses calculation).
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
semiconductor power components: diode, thyristor, fully-controlled components; self-commutated converters: basic circuits, bridge circuits, inverter operation, voltage quality; choppers: step-down, step-up and buck-boost, continuous / discontinuous conduction modes, H-bridge; inverters: basic concepts, three-phase VSI, PWM and square-wave switching schemes, power losses calculation in static converters.
