Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Put English language skills and skills of at least one other language other than French into practice.
    • Read and understand the overall meaning of non-specialised texts, listen and understand the overall meaning of audio documents.
    • Write an information request, a summary and analysis of texts and videos, and an exchange in dialogue form.
    • Express an opinion on a subject, orally and in writing, as well as on topical issues within ideological debates, carry out an oral presentation on a topic related to the specialised field.
  • Apply transferable skills, such as analysis and critical thinking, thoroughness, independence, and teamwork
    • Produce an analysis independently and in collaboration with peers, while demonstrating thoroughness.
    • Demonstrate a critical mind, ethical values and independent judgment issues of human and social sciences.
    • Mobilise acquired knowledge and skills to develop learning strategies required at the chosen Master level.

Learning Outcomes of UE

After successful completion of the course, students will be able to
-         read and understand various texts and articles published in the Dutch-speaking press;
-         listen to and understand news bulletins;
-         produce complex essays in which their opinions, about a topic broached in class, are communicated coherently;
-         express themselves freely and accurately, demonstrated in classroom discussions and individual talks.
-         develop their knowledge of the political, social and economic context of the northern part of the country.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Written and oral activities based on written and oral sources, which are varied, up-to-date and authentic. These sources are employed for listening and reading comprehension exercises as well as for lexical exercises. Discussions and essays are equally based on these sources. This course is divided into several chapters, each one of which concentrates on one theme. 
The course equally consists of a telecollaborative project in Flanders. 

The UE learning activities are fully complementary and only differ in teaching modalities
