Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Describe, organise, analyse and prioritise the phenomena observed in the medical field
    • Know the standard physical examination, as well as recognise and describe clinical symptoms
  • Control the molecular, morphological and functional approaches of normal and pathological conditions
    • Explain the relationships between molecular, morphological and functional changes and pathological conditions, their clinical signs and symptoms
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills developed within a medical context
    • Use a rich vocabulary accurately linking concepts and words, and understand the prefixes and suffixes used in the medical field
    • Adapt lexical and syntactic choices in communication register (everyday language, medical language or scientific terminology)
  • Develop reasoning skills
    • Use a hypothesis in inductive, deductive or abductive reasoning
    • Integrate reasoning in clinical approaches
  • Be a responsible practitioner
    • Integrate a human dimension in their approach to the patient

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this teaching, the student will be able to :

1. Break medical terms into units of meaning, roots, prefixes and suffixes, and to define these units of meaning

2. Define :
-basic medical terms in English and French
-the concepts of symptom, sign, syndrome
-Interpret a reference or exit letter - adapted to your level
-Define the concepts of health and illness (disease, illness, sickness)

3. Describe :
-the roles of the physician (clinical expert, communicator, collaborator, professional, health promoter, scholar, manager)
-the stages of a consultation (anamnesis and its various components, clinical examination, patient's experience)

4. Understand the different types of clinical reasoning.

 

Content of UE

The course will be contextualized based on different letters of consultation and/or hospitalization of fictitious patients. 

A glossary of the main medical terms to be known will be established progressively during the course.
