Learning Outcomes of UE

The course aims to develop the student's critical spirit as much on epistemological and aesthetic issues as on the sociological and political mechanisms of artistic and architectural production between the end of the 20th century and the 21st century.

Sensory exploration and transdisciplinary reflection on "nomadism" between architectural, artistic and scientific languages frees the student in his architectural career.

At the end of this course, the student will be able to develop a personal critical opinion in the field of contemporary art and architecture.

Content of UE

Chronologically, the course traces the influence of the avant-garde and the actors of the Thirties Glorious Period on our contemporary architectural context and critical thinking in architecture.

From research "on" and "in" architecture, the course evaluates the relevance of transversal methods and approaches in a mosaic of themes addressing the challenges of architectural criticism.
What critical project for contemporary architecture?
If the questioning is individual, the resolution emanates collectively.

1. The proliferation of avant-garde movements in the 20th century. (Cobra, Pop-Art, Conceptual Art, Minimal Art, ...);

2. Art in the dimension of the landscape after 1968: Land-art

3. Art for the city: urban redevelopments from the 1980s to the present day (plastic integrations and street furniture)

4. Art for social housing

5. Environmental art.

6. Participatory art and sound arts.

7. Anti-culture movements (Dada, Pop-art, Punk, street-art, etc.)
