Content of Learning Activity
The first part of the lecture is dedicated to a general overview of biologicals drugs (BD) : nature (proteins, nucleic acids, stem cells, ..), preparation, characterization, production and quality control. Special emphasis will be given to analytical methods and biotechnologies used to study BD.
Second part of the lecture will focuse on the description of the different BD that are currently used in pharmacotherapy focusing on their target(s) in the human body.
Overview will include the following BD categories: antitumorals, immunomodulators, hormonal peptides, BD of cardiovascular system, antivirals and antiangiogenesis.
For each BD, the mechanism of action, clinical use and adverse effects will be described.
