Organisational online arrangements for the end of Q3 2020-2021 assessments (Covid-19)
    • Oral exam (questions and answers, presentation of individual or group work, comment and argument about a written text...)
Description of the modifications to the Q3 2020-2021 assessment procedures (Covid-19)
The oral exam verifies the theoretical knowledge. The accent is put on the understanding of phenomena and concepts rather than on the memorization (100 % of the mark).
There are two options depending on the constraints linked to the health situation:

    * 1st option: oral examination in face-to-face mode
After receiving the question (randomly selected), the student write his answer on transparent slides that he will then present.

    * 2nd option (if the 1st option is not allowed, due to health measures): oral examination in distance and visual mode
The student disposes of his notes ("open notebook") and answers from a distance (but visually) to a set of short questions.

Organisational arrangements for the end of Q1 2020-2021 assessments (Covid-19) online or face-to-face (according to assessment schedule)

    * 1st option: oral examination in face-to-face mode
After receiving the question (randomly selected), the student write his answer on transparent slides that he will then present. Duration: maximum 2h15 per group of 6 students.

    * 2nd option (if the 1st option is not allowed, due to health measures): oral examination in distance and visual mode
The student disposes of his notes ("open notebook") and answers from a distance (but visually) to a set of short questions. Duration: maximum 30 minutes.

The overall mark of the course (i.e. AA) will be calculated by a weighted geometric mean of the different marks (and not a weighted arithmetic mean).

    Content of Learning Activity

Electronic structure of atoms; covalent bonding; building of molecular structures. Electrostatic interactions, dipole moment, hydrogen bond. Cohesion in liquids ; structures of solids. Main properties of the gaseous, liquid, solid and glassy states. First and second principles of thermodynamics ; chemical reaction spontaneity (Gibbs free energy and equilibrium constant). Chemical reactions (acid-base, precipitation, redox). Chemical kinetics and elements of catalysis. Illustrations (building of polymers, concrete and metals corroding, ...)
