Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes of UE
Upon completion of the language courses of the second block, students will have a good command of the foreign language at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages or higher. Students will be able to:
- understand articles and reports dealing with contemporary problems in which the writers adopt a particular stance or viewpoint;
- understand literary texts;
- write informative and argumentative texts on a variety of subjects;
- follow a speech or a complex argument on a reasonably familiar topic;
- understand TV news and current affairs programmes as well as films;
- interact with native speakers, take part in a conversation, express and back an opinion;
- give clear, detailed verbal descriptions on a variety of subjects;
- express opinions about current events;
- identify, put into perspective and describe important events considered to be part of the culture (i.e. historical, geographical or socioeconomic) of a native speaker;
- carry out relevant research on these topics;
- report on their research and findings.
Content of UE
Written Language:
- Written assignments drafted in accordance with academic conventions;
- Analysis and paraphrasing of information and arguments borrowed from diverse sources;
- Construction of personal arguments;
- Mastery of grammar and vocabulary.
The above may be based on:
- Listening activities based on authentic audio(visual) documents involving native speakers on varied topics;
- Reading activities based on informative and literary texts.
Spoken Language:
- Speaking activities: presentations, personal argumentation, interactions, etc.;
- Pronunciation exercises;
The above may be based on:
- Listening activities based on authentic audio(visual) documents involving native speakers on varied topics;
- Reading activities based on informative and literary texts.
UK Culture and Institutions:
- Geographical, historical, socio-economic and cultural context;
- Research projects on related topics.
Prior Experience
A solid grounding in English language (European Framework of Reference for Languages B1+ or higher).
