Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
    • Develop knowledge in various fields, in particular those aimed at by translation activities
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used
    • Give a critique of the studied literature

Learning Outcomes of UE

AA :  T-ITAL-502 Foreign Culture and Language : Students will be able to: - understand a wide range of demanding longer texts and their implied meanings; - speak fluently and spontaneously without much obvious groping for words; - speak about complex subjects in a clear and well-structured manner and show their controlled use of the organizational, connecting and cohesive patterns within discourse. T-ITAL-306 Cultural Studies : At the end of this learning activity, students will be able to: - identify, put into perspective and describe important events considered to be part of the general (i.e. historical, geographical or socioeconomic) culture of a native speaker; - do relevant research on these topics; - give a comprehensive and coherent account of the way they tackled the problems encountered in their research.  

Content of UE

Cf. AA :  T-ITAL-502 Foreign Culture and Language : Analysis of documents selected for their relevance to the socio-cultural context of the studied language. Oral and written activities targeting linguistic and cultural knowledge, but also discursive, functional and heuristic skills.  + AA : T-ITAL-306 Cultural Studies : Study of the most important historical stages since the founding of Rome (-753) to the Risorgimento (1871). The historical periods chosen must bring the student to understand the complexity of modern Italy (f.i. the historic divide between North and South).In parallel, notions of literature and the study of major authors and artists (Marco Polo, Dante, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.) to help understanding of the specific characteristics of each period.The political and institutional news is also covered.
