Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this UE, the student will be able to produce an informed and rigorous philosophical reflection on issues of citizenship. This implies that it will in particular be able to
• problematize an issue;
• identify and use relevant philosophical and humanities references to address it;
• analyze related texts;
• to justify, in oral and written, choices of certain theoretical resources in order to approach in a philosophical manner a question of citizenship.

Content of UE

Care will be taken to address the issues of citizenship mentioned in the terminal competency framework of the philosophy and citizenship course and to link them to current issues likely to be of interest to secondary school students.   Phase I: presentation and exemplification of the approach From a theme in the repository, it is a matter of showing how to philosophically problematize different questions, linking them to the referral UAAs and identifying the knowledge (in philosophy and human sciences) required to deal with these questions. The first session would take the form of a lecture (which does not prevent interactions). The second would be devoted to the reading of philosophical texts addressing in a different way the same question of citizenship.   Phase II: collective implementation of the approach. From two themes in the repository, it is a matter of organizing the following sequence twice Issue problematic. Collectively, it is a matter of problematizing one or more question (s) on the basis of a theme in the frame of reference, following the example of the first sessions. The group may be divided into subgroups that reflect together during the first half of the course and then report their results to the group as a whole during the second half. Identification and analysis of resources. As a result of each problem-solving session, students conduct research at home to identify relevant theoretical resources (a philosophical text and 2 or 3 empirical references) to deal philosophically with the chosen topic. During the session, they share their findings and assess their quality and relevance, first in small groups and then collectively.

Type of Assessment for UE in Q1

  • Presentation and/or works
  • Oral examination

Q1 UE Assessment Comments

The UE will lead to the drafting of a personal work aimed at assessing and certifying the level of student achievement. This will consist in repeating, individually, the same steps as those carried out during the sessions, namely to problematize a question in a philosophical way, to link it to AUAs, to identify relevant theoretical resources and to justify its choices.
