Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Imagine, design, optimise, carry out and implement projects and solutions to address a complex problem by integrating needs, contexts and issues (technical, economic, societal, ethical and environmental).
    • Identify complex problems to be solved and formulate the specifications by integrating client needs, contexts and issues (technical, economic, societal, ethical and environmental).
    • On the basis of modelling, design one or more projects and solutions addressing the problem raised; evaluate them in light of various parameters of the specifications.
    • Implement a chosen solution in the form of a drawing, a schema, a plan, a model, a prototype, software and/or digital model
  • Mobilise a structured set of artistic and scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out architectural missions using their expertise and adaptability.
    • Model a project or solutions by selecting theories and methodological approaches (modelling, calculations) and relevant techniques while taking into account multidisciplinary aspects.
    • Identify and discuss possible applications of new and emerging technologies in the field of built environment for the benefit of humans.
    • Assess the relevance of models and results in view of the current state of knowledge and construction and the characteristics of the problem.
  • Communicate and exchange information in a structured way - orally, graphically and in writing, in French and in one or more other languages - artistically, scientifically, culturally, technically and interpersonally by adapting to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
    • Use and produce scientific and technical documents (reports, plans, specifications, etc.) adapted to the intended purpose and the relevant public.
  • Adopt a professional and responsible approach, showing an open and critical mind in an independent professional development process.
    • Show an open and critical mind by bringing to light technical and non-technical issues of analysed problems and proposed solutions.
  • Contribute by researching the innovative solution of a problem in engineering sciences.
    • Design and implement technical analysis, experimental studies and numerical modelling.

Learning Outcomes of UE

By the end of this unit, the student will be able to establish a calculation report assessing the efficiency and the reliability for most of the works interacting with the ground : slopes, retaining works, foundations and other facilities. For real case studies where several component play together, the student will be able to manage a global study with a systemic approach. He (she) will also be likely to perform the prescription and to control the convenient execution of works. In particular, and except for facilities, he (she) will be able to establish the whole calculation report with GEO5 software tools, used in most of engineering offices but also be able to produce a fast and "manual" calculation for pre-design purposes.
