Learning Outcomes of UE
Students will be able to:
- understand a wide range of demanding longer texts and their implied meanings;
- speak fluently and spontaneously without much obvious groping for words;
- speak about complex subjects in a clear and well-structured manner and show their controlled use of the organizational, connecting and cohesive patterns within discourse. They will also be able to:
- identify, put into perspective and describe important events considered to be part of the general (i.e. historical, geographical or socioeconomic) culture of a native speaker;
- do relevant research on these topics;
- give a comprehensive and coherent account of the way they tackled the problems encountered in their research.
Content of UE
Analysis of and commentary on textual and audiovisual documents selected for their relevance to the socio-cultural context of the studied language.
Activities targeting linguistic and cultural knowledge, but also discursive, functional and heuristic skills. Students will become acquainted with the geographical, historical and socioeconomic context of the language they are studying.
They will have to do research and hand in personal assignments on questions related to these topics.
