Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Master specialist knowledge in the field of economic, political and social sciences in order to mobilise it on issues related to political, economic and social environments.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise highly specialised knowledge and methodological approaches within of economic, political and social sciences.
    • Assimilate political, economic and social environments.
  • Analyse concrete political, social and economic issues in a multidisciplinary way, identifying future societal changes.
    • Mobilise highly specialised knowledge methods and tools in different fields of economic, political and social sciences.
  • Develop innovative solutions/actions/policies/methodologies adapted to an institutional and social context of actors concerned in a process of change.
    • Develop and implement innovative economic and social policies and measure their potential impacts.
  • Implement a scientific approach in order to carry out detailed research on issues within the economic, social or political field.
    • Master the different steps and methods to carry out scientific reasoning on complex or innovative issues in economic and social politics.
    • Construct a reference framework, formulate questions or hypotheses from the analysis of scientific literature.
    • Collect data, analyse it qualitatively and quantitatively and adequately interpret the results, taking into account the reference framework within which the research was developed.

    • Critically analyse the extent and limitations of actions implemented in the economic, social and political field.
  • Communicate, orally and in writing, in a structured and relevant way.
    • Communicate and interact in a clear and structured manner, orally and in writing in French and English, on issues, analyses and projects.
    • Present and structure data in a clear, precise, neutral, and non-oriented way.
    • Present (orally and in writing) a personal and adapted summary to the public concerned (to colleagues, non-specialists, sponsors or hierarchy), resulting from their own productions or not.

Learning Outcomes of UE

This UE first covers teaching social security and social law. At the end of this course, students will be able to begin their professional life with the means to understand the main questions of social law that are posed in and by the life of a company.    This UE also covers teaching employment policy. At the end of this course, students will be able :
- to get a global insight on how to understand European employment;
- to classify and deal with different active labour market policies that can be performed in order to improve employment;
- to analyse how these policies can have an impact by either favouring firms wishes to hire workers, job search incentives from labour suppliers and the matching process between both sides of the labour market;
- to tackle the evaluation of these policies, which can further serve for policy makers;
- to deal with a special labour market policy issue (case study)

Content of UE

This UE first covers teaching social security and social law, whose contents are the following ones :
- collective labour law;
- individual labour law (work contract);
- notions of social security in direct rapport with individual labour law.    This UE also covers teaching employment policy, which contains :
- basic theoretical concepts to labour policy analysis;
- main factors, including those under the control of policy makers and/or refering to specific labour market institutional features, to explain the empirical evidence and evolution from European employment;
- role that labour market policies can play;
- evaluation of their effects.

The oral examination of social security and social law includes two general questions, one covering collective labour law, the other covering individual labour law. It counts for 45% of the total. Regarding employment policy, students are evaluated on their theoretical abilities through a written examination, and on their ability to analyse a specific case study related to labour market policy through a written essay and an oral presentation. This evaluation counts for 55% of the total.
