      Objectives of general skills

      • Linguistic skills - Apply knowledge of languages specific to translation or interpretation
        • Master the French language at level C2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
        • Master the foreign languages at level C2 in reading and listening, and level C1 in writing and speaking.
        • Continuously assess and maintain said linguistic knowledge;
      • (Inter)cultural skills - Use intercultural knowledge which is useful for understanding, analysing and contextualising translation activities.
        • Able to recognise the socio-cultural components underlying an oral or written text.
        • Analyse the assumptions, implicit or explicit, allusions, stereotypes and intertextuality of any oral or written document.
      • Thematic expertise - Develop and apply subject knowledge relating to the fields in which the activity of translation or interpretation is practised.
        • Identify what information and documentation is required.
        • Master the strategies, tools and techniques needed for carrying out documentary or terminological research.
      • Cognitive skills - Understand theoretical knowledge specific to translation and interpretation, apply it to professional practice and develop it independently.
        • Develop knowledge and skills autonomously, particularly in terms of researching new theoretical approaches and tools in the field, with the aim of improving professional skills.

      UE's Learning outcomes

      By the end of this teaching unit, students will know the main computer-aided translation (CAT) tools available on the market and will understand their basic theoretical concepts. They will become advanced users of at least two CAT software solutions. 
      They will also be able to provide a detailed critical analysis of a translation into French and will be able to delect, to review and correct poor translations, both in terms of faithfulness to original source text and on syntax, lexicon, style and typography aspects.

      Introduction to main computer-aided translation tools, theory and practical exercises.
      Critical thinking development and poor translation review exercises, as well as specific syntax, punctuation and typography rules application exercises in French.
