      Objectives of general skills

      • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
        • Be proficient in another foreign language
      • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
        • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
      • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
        • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
      • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
        • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
        • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
        • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
        • Communicate results or conclusions of these activities or projects in an appropriate manner
      • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
        • Give a critique of the studied literature

      UE's Learning outcomes

      At the end of this programme component, students will master the English language at level A2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for languages, as for receptive competences. They will be at level A1 for productive competences.

      UE Content

      They should be able to:
      - understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, local geography, study); - introduce him/herself and others and ask and answer questions about personal details; - interact in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly and is prepared to help.
