      Objectives of general skills

      • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
        • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
      • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
        • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
        • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
      • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
        • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
      • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
        • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
        • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
        • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
        • Communicate results or conclusions of these activities or projects in an appropriate manner
      • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
        • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
        • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used

      UE's Learning outcomes

      Upon completion of the language courses of the second module, students will have a good command of Spanish at the B1 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

      They will be able to:
      - identify, put into perspective and describe important events considered to be part of the general (i.e. historical, geographical or socioeconomic) culture of a native speaker;
      - do relevant research on these topics;
      - give a comprehensive and coherent account of the way they tackled the problems encountered in their research.

      Furthermore, students wil be able to:
      - bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in the foreign language;
      - render the meaning of this text in a correct French;
      - advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents.

      UE Content

      Commented reading of factual and literary texts. Commented listening of audio(-visual) recordings. Writing and speaking exercises.

      Students will become acquainted with the geographical, historical and socioeconomic context of the language they are studying. They will have to do research and hand in personal assignments on questions related to these topics.

      Introduction to the basic translation principles and technologies. Introduction to the translation of informative and pragmatic texts.
