      Objectives of general skills

      • Skill 2: Have acquired professional skills in relation to the objective defining the degree.
        • Specialise in at least one sub-domain of the biology of organisms and ecology.

      UE's Learning outcomes

      The first aim of the lecture is to familiarize students with the databases concepts in the context of biogeographic data. They must be able to design and operate a simple database. The second aim is to familiarize them with the main concepts of Geographical Information Systems (GIS), including spatial concepts. They must be able to use the main functions of a GIS software.

      UE Content

      1) Properties of biogeographic data<br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px;" />2) Introduction to Databases Management Systems (conceptual model, relational model, main concepts, SQL Language)<br style="color: rgb(102, 102, 102); font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 11px;" />3) Introduction to Geographic Information Systems (definitions, uses, spatial modeling representation, coordinates systems, using QGIS). Several practial exercices are organized.
