      Objectives of general skills

      • In the field of biological sciences and particularly in the field of the biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in biological sciences.

      UE's Learning outcomes

Many living organisms rely on biopolymer-based adhesive substances at one time or another during their life cycle. The remarkable properties of these adhesives have intrigued scientists, who are trying to imitate them in an approach known as biomimetics. Indeed, some of these bioadhesives could advantageously replace current man-made adhesives in many applications. The aim of this course is to present the biomimetic approach through the example of biological adhesives.

      UE Content

The course comprises a series of examples of living organisms whose adhesive has been studied for both fundamental and applied research. For each organism, the natural adhesive will be described as well as the methods used to synthetize biomimetic adhesives, and their possible applications.
Part of the course may consist of seminars given by specialists in the field.
