      Objectives of general skills

      • In the field of biological sciences and particularly in the field of the biochemistry, molecular and cell biology, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in biological sciences.
      • Conduct extensive research and development projects related to biological sciences, in biochemistry and in molecular and cell biology.
        • Show initiative and be able to work independently and in teams.
      • Manage and lead research, development and innovation projects.
        • Understand unprecedented problems in biological sciences, and more specifically in biochemistry and molecular and cell biology and its applications.
        • Organise and lead a research, development or innovation project to completion.
        • Methodically research valid scientific information, critically analyse, propose and argue potentially innovative solutions to targeted problems.
      • Master communication techniques.
        • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
        • Master the techniques of written and oral scientific communication in both French and English.
      • Develop and integrate a high degree of autonomy.
        • Pursue further training and develop new skills independently.
      • Apply scientific methodology.
        • Demonstrate thoroughness, independence, creativity, intellectual honesty, and ethical values.
      • Skill 2: Have acquired professional skills in relation to the objective defining the degree.
        • Specialise in at least one sub-domain of biochemistry or molecular and cell biology.

      UE's Learning outcomes

This course provides an understanding of the different cellular and molecular stages in cancer development and progression. It also examines the various current therapies

      UE Content

The course describes the molecular and cellular basis of cancer. It covers the following topics: cancer genetics, cell cycle, causes of cancer, classification, staging, tumor biology, stem cells, tumor suppressor genes, mechanisms of DNA repair, viruses, alteration of the immune system, environmental factors, detection and diagnosis of cancer, conventional treatments and new therapies, cancer prevention, screening and genetic testing.
