      Objectives of general skills

      • Describe, organise, analyse and prioritise the phenomena observed in the medical field
        • Understand the expression of biological realities in absolute or relative terms, the orders of magnitude, proportions and probability
      • Control the molecular, morphological and functional approaches of normal and pathological conditions
        • Describe these states and technical examinations to quantify them in different approaches, as well as describe the operational characteristics of these examinations
        • Explain the relationships between molecular, morphological and functional changes and pathological conditions, their clinical signs and symptoms
      • Demonstrate interpersonal skills developed within a medical context
        • Summarise, explain, and argue
      • Develop reasoning skills
        • Develop critical thinking, test and monitor conclusions understanding the domain of validity, and explore alternative hypotheses
      • Promote health
        • Understand a global approach to health incorporating prevention and screening
        • Identify community health problems in the various teachings
        • Understand the fundamentals of health education
      • Manage their studies
        • Have developed an interest for medicine
        • Compare different sources of information
      • Be a responsible practitioner
        • Integrate a human dimension in their approach to the patient

      UE's Learning outcomes

The developed concepts will enable the future doctor to understand the nutritional and metabolic needs of different categories of patients, at the level of both energy inputs and macro- and micronutrients input/deficiencies/overload. It develops the physicochemical and biochemical concepts useful in understanding the composition, cooking and digestion of food.

      UE Content

The UE develops biochemical and physicochemical concepts (energy balance, reactive oxygen species, vitamins, macro- and micronutrients, Maillard reaction, contribution of the colonic microflora in digestion, dietary fiber...). Some clinical applications allow putting into perspective the studied concepts.
