      UE's Learning outcomes

Cities, their configurations and populations are not the result of technical acts made by experts, nor the aestethic actions of architects and urban planners who are independant from the social context. Development of cities is not natural. Cities are social products, results of the conflicting relationship between social groups and political action, which are different over time. Through looking at the history of urban development, the lectures will highlight the socioeconomic conditions behind this history. They will shows that over time each urban form is the product of its era and its social actors.
