    Contents

This course is structured in three parts. The first is focused on the study of the reactivity of certain chemical groups such as haloalkanes (nucleophilic / elimination nucleophilic substitution), alcohols, ethers, carboxylic acids and their derivative compounds, and amines. The second part addresses the polyfunctional compounds (properties / reactivity) and introduction to biochemical compounds. The last part is focused on the petrochemical processes and production of basic compounds (description of the industrial production of commodities) in collaboration with the IFP-School. The course is illustrated during exercise sessions which aim help the understanding of reaction mechanisms and the development of synthetic routes. Lab sessions will sensitise students to the complexity of the synthesis and purification of compounds, and to their identification. They are also used for students to carry out an integrated exercise: design and size an organic compound process, including basic economic aspects.
