      Term 2 Assessment - comments

The oral examination is carried out without the help of class notes. The exam takes place on a half-day during the session. To assess the degree of assimilation and of knowledge of the subject (not a pure memory reproduction of relationships and content learned by heart), the examination consists of two questions drawn lots: - A general question of theory for 50% of the final mark; - A question of the form of an exercise from another part of the course and accounting for the remaining 50% of the final mark. The answer to these questions is prepared the blackboard, sometimes on paper for the exercise, and then exposed orally by the student. Each year, the list of chapters and the content to be learned for the oral examination is provided to students on the intranet WEB site. Unless explicitly stated in this list, the content for the examination is all the elements seen during the course and included in the copy of the slides made as class notes available for the students. The theoretical question is a question of synthesis that covers one of the fundamental chapters of the course. The main demand is the ability to summarize the main principles related to the question asked, where should dominate by the use of fluid mechanics laws, though process, logic, physical interpretation, common sense and justification of the relationships and physical behaviours presented. The exercise makes a direct appeal to the notions of the course and is presented in a form similar to those presented in the course and resolved during the exercise and practical work labs. The time spent by the student for the preparation and the presentation is about two hours and three quarters (90 minutes preparation for the question about theory and 30 minutes for the exercise).
