      Term 1 Assessment - type

      • Oral examination

      Term 1 Assessment - comments

Oral examination, 100% of the mark (theoretical part: 50%, application part: 50%). The exam is carried out without the help of class notes. To assess the degree of assimilation and of knowledge of the subject (not a pure memory reproduction of relationships and content learned by heart), the examination consists of two questions drawn lots. The answer to these questions is prepared the blackboard and then exposed orally by the student. The theoretical question is a question of synthesis that covers one of the fundamental chapters of the course. The main demand is the ability to summarize the main principles related to the question asked, where should dominate the though process, the logic, the physical interpretation, the common sense and the justification of relationships and physical behaviors presented. The exercise question requires the principles for resolving the application without requiring to perform numerical calculations. The exercise uses laws and principles presented in class. The question is similar to those available in the comprehensive collection of exercises available as exercise notes for the students. The exercise solution uses a resolution procedure similar to the ones performed during the exercise labs. The time spent by the student for the preparation and the presentation is typically about 135 minutes (including 70 minutes preparation).
