Objectives of general skills

  • Adopt an applied scientific approach
  • Coordinate the disciplines related to architecture and urban planning
  • Understand communication in the presentation of projects and studies to target audiences
  • Understand cultural theories of architecture, town and territory in order to be a critical, reflexive and independent professional

UE's Learning outcomes

At the same time as the theory of architecture, the history of architecture - as architectural history of a society in its plan and its ideology - plays a leading specific role to put into perspective at the student's " future architect " pedagogic inventions of the plan of architecture in workshop:                                                                               

1. INCLUDE architecture in its context of SOCIETY to define te principals PROGRAMMES ;  

2. IDENTIFY architectural typologies to ANALYSE VISUALLY the DIMENSIONS of architecture (stability, spatialité, message) beyond SOLUTIONS brought in LOGIC (structure, functionality and composition);  

3. To put in HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE the part of INNOVATION / TRADITION of TYPOLOGIES TO CARRY a REFLEXION CRITICAL on the responsibility of the architect facing heritage and facing TRADITION.  

The history of ideas and the constructive culture of this lesson construct the HISTORICAL DETACHMENT necessary for architectural projection.

UE Content

Prehistory: the origin of art and megalithic architecture in Europe.  

Appearance of architecture and of first cities in the Near East.   

Close and Medium historical East: architecture and arts included in Mésopotamie.  

Egypt: architecture and integrated arts of the Ancient Empire in Low Epoch   

Greece: architecture and arts included into Aegean civilisations and into civilisation Greece.   

Rome: architecture and arts included into Roman Empire.

Prior experience

Pré-requis en histoire (voire histoire de l'art) et connaissances culturelles et géographiques en étude du milieu.
