Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the fundamentals (theories and tools) in human and social sciences
    • Identify and explain the basic theoretical trends in various fields of human sciences (law, economics, management, history, psychology, etc.) and their applications.
  • Sociology and Anthropology option : Understand the fundamentals in the field of sociology and anthropology
    • Have a critical view of theories, concepts and methods specific to sociology and anthropology.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the course, the students will be able to: (a) present these theories and debates (situating them in their currents and specifying the main authors); (b) synthesize its specific visions by linking them to the broader socio-political and historical context; (c) criticizing them both from an epistemological, political, ethical, political economy and decolonial point of view.

 

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

This course will allow students to know, understand and criticize: (a) the major theoretical currents and major themes of anthropology; (b) the debates they raise, their possibility conditions and their challenges; (c) the plurality of ways of thinking, of forming society, of being in the world and of imagining the world. The teaching will be given ex cathedra. Students will have readings and practical work to be done; course will address the following topics: evolutionism, diffusionism, the French school, American culturalism, British functionalism, structural anthropology, critique of structural-functionalism, Marxist anthropology, dynamic anthropology, "post-modern" criticism, state anthropology, and ethnographic method.
