Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
To include/understand the existing link between the physicochemical properties of a matrix and the cellular functions. Study of the mechanical behavior of alive cells and tissues. Description of the mechanical models used to describe the mechanical behavior of living cells. Introduction to the main techniques and methods for probling cell mechanics (magnetic tweezers, atomic force microscopy, traction force microscopy, etc.). Understading the polymerization mechanisms in living cells and the specific role of molecular motors.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Physical chemistry of the cytoskeleton
Micrometric force measurement
Development of functionalized polymeric materials for the living interface
Surface topography at nano- and microscopic scales
Notions of rheology and viscoelasticity
Prior Experience
Not applicable
Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE assessment
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
The exam consists of presenting a research article selected with the teacher. The presentation of the article takes around 10 minutes, based on a 5-10 slide powerpoint, and gives rise to a 20-minute discussion with the teacher, who will use the concepts seen in class.
Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q1 UE assessment
The grade /20 is derived from the oral exam, based on the quality of the oral presentation and the answers to questions on course concepts.
Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE resit assessment (BAB1)
