Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • In the field of chemistry, possess highly specialised and integrated knowledge and a wide range of skills adding to those covered in the Bachelor's programme in chemistry.
  • Help lead and complete a major development project, individually or in teams, related to chemistry.
    • Mobilise, articulate and promote the knowledge and skills acquired.
    • Assess the degree of complexity of the project and take into account the objectives, allocated resources and constraints that characterise it.
    • Demonstrate independence and their ability to work alone or in teams.
  • Manage research, development and innovation within chemistry and/or its applications.
    • Understand unprecedented problems in chemistry.
    • Mobilise their knowledge effectively, identify their limits, conduct methodical research and critically analyse scientifically valid information.
  • Communicate clearly in the scientific domain.
    • Communicate, both orally and in writing, their findings, original proposals, knowledge and underlying principles, in a clear, structured and justified manner.
    • Adapt their communication to a variety of audiences.
    • Where possible, communicate in English.

Learning Outcomes of UE

Being able to summarize a bibliographic research, to establish a research strategy in the light of the state of the art of the topic, to identify experimental methods. Being able to use slides to present a research topic in english.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Two research interships in laboratories of the chemistry department. This work is a miniature version of what will be the master thesis of the student. It includes (i) establishing the experimental strategy, bibliographic research and a measurement campaign.

Prior Experience

Depends on the research topic

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q2 UE assessment

  • Oral presentation - Face-to-face

Q2 UE Assessment Comments

The work is judged on the basis of a presentation in English in front of the chemistry department relating to one of the two internships. The members of the latter rate the students on the quality of their presentation. This rating is added to that of the promoter. The final grade is composed equally of: intership 1 promoter score + intership 2 promoter score + chemistry department score.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q2 UE assessment

1/3 from the 1rts intership promotor, 1/3 from the 2nd intership promotor, 1/3 for the presentation and discussion

Type(s) and mode(s) of Q3 UE assessment

  • Oral examination - Face-to-face

Q3 UE Assessment Comments

The work is evaluated on the basis of a presentation in English in front of the chemistry department. Members of the latter mark the students based on the quality of their presentation.

Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q3 UE assessment

1/3 from the 1rts intership promotor, 1/3 from the 2nd intership promotor, 1/3 for the presentation and discussion
