Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
By the end of the course, the student should be able to master Maxwell's equations in their manifestly and non-manifestly relativistic covariant forms. He/she should be able to solve them in simple situations, by using the various mathematical tools introduced, like vector calculus, Green's functions and distributions, separation of variables, etc.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Maxwell equations in non relativistic and relativistic form. Lorentz and gauge invariance. Plane waves. Electrostatic. Magnetostatic. Oscillating dipole and radiation. Retarded potential. Energy momentum tensor. Electromotive force, induced currents and Faraday law, Liénard-Wiechert potential.
Prior Experience
General Physics, differential and integral calculus, linear algebra, special relativity and tensor calculus, elementary geometry.
