Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
integrate key parameters for the management of energy resources , renewable and nonrenewable; master the operation of all types of power plants and management of different energy sources on the network master the thermal applications of solar energy; select the solar collector that best fits a given application; quantify the potential of wind energy recovery ; master the operational principles and the aerodynamic design principles of wind turbines ; conduct a draft design of a horizontal axis wind turbine
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
The EU "Energy Strategy and Resources - Energy Production Systems" consists of 3 AAs:
I-FLMA-011 Energy Resource Management and Centralized Power Generation, I-TRMI-011 Solar Energy Conversion and I-FLMA-012 Wind Energy. The AA "Solar Energy Conversion" and "Wind Energy" focus on two of the main renewable energy sources used in Europe for electricity generation, while the AA "Energy Resources Management and Centralised Power Generation" addresses the general issue of energy resources available in our regions and centralised power generation.
Prior Experience
Heat transfer (UI-B3-IRCIVI-004-M et UI-B3-IRCIVI-407-M) ; heat exchangers design (UI-M1-IRMECA-711-M); thermodynamics; fluid mechanics
Type(s) and mode(s) of Q1 UE assessment
Q1 UE Assessment Comments
The assessment of the EU (Educational Unit) is the result of the assessments of its component AA (Apprenticeship Activities) and is organised in two stages. The assessment of the AA "Energy Resources Management and Centralized Power Generation" consists of a written examination and includes the assessment of assignments. The combined assessment of the AA 'Wind Energy' and 'Solar Energy Conversion' is a mixed examination consisting of a multiple-choice question paper and a question prepared in advance in writing and presented orally afterwards. The assessment of the AA "Solar Energy Conversion" includes a part on the evaluation of the laboratory work.
Method of calculating the overall mark for the Q1 UE assessment
The EU's overall score is distributed as follows: - 50% for the " Energy ressources management and centralised electricity production " AA - 50% for the two other AA (1/4 for "Wind energy" and 3/4 for "Solar energy conversion"). This means 12.5% of the UE for "wind" and 22.5% of the UE for "solar" - the reports on the laboratory work for "Solar energy conversion" represent 15% of the UE.
If the score of one AA is lower than 7/20, the EU's overall score corresponds to the smallest score of all AA.
