Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Mobilise a structured set of scientific knowledge and skills and specialised techniques in order to carry out mechanical engineering missions, using their expertise and adaptability.
    • Master and appropriately mobilise knowledge, models, methods and techniques specific to mechanical engineering.
    • Assess the validity of models and results in view of the state of science and characteristics of the problem.

Learning Outcomes of UE

Get acquainted with the fundamentals of Acoustics. To understand the phenomena related to generation, propagation and perception of noise. To address and solve acoustic problems likely to appear in industry with a particular concern on a rigorous analysis and a rigorous application of the theory. Sound measurement devices.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Fundamentals of Acoustics: wave equation, pressure, particle velocity, sound celerity, acoustic impedance, acoustic intensity and power. Human perception of sound. Propagation of sound. Measurement. Experimental Acoustics. Principal laws and standards in Europe, Belgium and Walloon Region. Iso Standards. Audition loss of company workers. Noise of machines: "emitter-propagation-receptor" model.
