Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes
Learning Outcomes of UE
Cite and explain the conception and operating principles of some essential separation unit operations (absorption, liquid-liquid extraction, azeotropic distillation) ; Describe and apply the specific hydrodynamic behaviour of different separation devices ; Describe and apply adequately equilibrium laws, mass and energy balances (for continuous and batch operations), transfer kinetics with or without chemical reactions ; Design a contactor by applying theoretical stages concept (stage efficiency estimation) or kinetic concept (transfer coefficient estimation) ; Make a choice of a technology for a given separation according to a list of criteria.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Study of some essential separation unit operations (absorption, liquid-liquid extraction, azeotropic distillation) following a similar methodology : technology (batch and continuous operations) ; equilibrium laws ; hydrodynamics ; transfer kinetics ; links with chemical reaction and heat transfer ; design/simulation ; effects of operating conditions.
