Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand the epistemological postures and the methodological tools human sciences related to issues of social transitions and innovations.
    • Understand the epistemological frameworks in human and social sciences in order to change thought patterns.
    • Understand the methodological frameworks in human and social sciences in order to change practices.
    • Conduct research/projects in the context of social transitions and innovations by selecting appropriate epistemological approaches and methodologies.
  • Mobilise the relevant analytical approaches and the appropriate methodological tools to analyse, rigorously, thoroughly and comparatively, the problems of social transitions and innovations, including their interactions and their spatial and temporal evolutions.
    • Appropriately apply analytical approaches and methodological tools in contexts of social transitions and innovations.

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of the course, students will be able to: (a) know the theories and debates on society-environment relationships in sociology, anthropology and philosophy; (b) apart from the technical aspects of transition issues, they will also be able to identify the power relations behind societal choices and the political means to face them; (c) they will be able to detect, in the political proposals linked to ecological issues, the ideological, theoretical and utopian aspects and the way in which they structure these political offers.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Key concepts: discourse, social representation, ideology Survey techniques: interviews, focus group (theoretical content) Survey circumstances: sidesteps that interpose in interviewer- interviewee relationship Practical exercise: role-playing with other students (interviewer-interviewee ; leader-notes taker-participant) Practical exercise: role-playing in real context, chosen and prepared by the student (linked with transformation/innovation issue), with support (and in presence of) the teacher
