* Quantum mechanics basics * Interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter * Electron spectroscopy of diatomic molecules and polyatomic * Electron Spectroscopy of Nanostructures * Synchrotron radiation basics * Spectroscopic methods ( photoelectron spectroscopy, Auger spectroscopy, X-ray absorption ( XANES / EXAFS ) and energy loss spectroscopy ( EELS) * Techniques of electron microscopy (SEM, TEM, ...) and associated techniques (EDX, ...): operating principle, application, instrumentation * Surface chemical analysis by spectroscopy (XPS, SIMS): operating principle and application, instrumentation, qualitative and quantitative approach in the interpretation of results.
