Content of Learning Activity
The organic synthesis course is organised in chapters covering the following aspects:
- basic atomiic and molecular concepts (bond-isometrics, polarity-solubility, acids and bases);
- molecular spectroscopic features (IR and UV-vis),
- the application of these instrumental analytical techniques for the identification of functions and polymers (IR);
- systematic study of the chemical classes and their reactivity on the basis of the presence of unsaturated bonds, aromatic rings, and functions. Particular attention is paid to the mechanisms of substitution, addition, elimination and rearrangement.
The properties of solvents are exposed.
The reaction mechanisms and molecular structures of several classes of compounds including the principles of stereoisomerism are discussed: Alkanes and cycloalkanes, alkenes and alkynes and aromatic compounds.
