Learning Outcomes of UE
At the end of the first block of the master in translation or interpreting, students will be able to:
- understand the challenges of general translation and do the necessary research to solve those challenges;
- translate general texts in written and with a high degree of precision, in a correct French and in the appropriate style;
- translate and/or summarize general texts orally, without any mistranslations and at the normal rhythm of speech delivery.
In terms of introduction to localisation, students will be able to:
- differentiate between the different types of translation (translation formats/localisation), depending on the sector, the target audience, the business objectives pursued, the budget;
- identify the fields concerned by localisation (IT, marketing, law, etc.) and the needs inherent in them;
- understand and master the tools and mechanisms of localisation;
- understand that the localisation process takes into account the linguistic and cultural requirements of a country/region;
- identify the key elements of the source culture to be localised in the target culture.
UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance
Translation of general texts exploring the Italian and foreign news, socio-economic, financial and social contemporaries. Written translation exercises to reinforce learning. Practice of sight translation.
Definition of "localisation" and copywriting, understanding the issues and principles of localisation; use of existing computerised localisation tools.
