Programme component

Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Linguistic Skills - Apply linguistic knowledge to the practice of translation or interpretation.
    • Master the foreign languages at level C2 in reading and listening, and level C1 in writing and speaking.
    • Continuously assess and maintain that linguistic knowledge.
  • Cultural and Intercultural Competency - Utilise intercultural knowledge in order to understand, analyse, and contextualise in the practice of translation.
    • Be familiar with the political, social and cultural environment of the working language and the chosen foreign languages, as well as a sustained effort to keep abreast of all new developments in those areas.
    • Analyse the assumptions, implicit or explicit, allusions, stereotypes and intertextuality of any oral or written document.

Learning Outcomes of UE

Students will be able to:
- understand a wide range of demanding longer texts and their implied meanings;
- speak fluently and spontaneously without much obvious groping for words;
- speak about complex subjects in a clear and well-structured manner and show their controlled use of the organizational, connecting and cohesive patterns within discourse;
- provide a true and accurate translation of text using the foreign language correctly and appropiately;
- apply appropriate strategies of revision, avoidance and communication.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Analysis of and commentary on textual and audiovisual documents selected for their relevance to the socio-cultural context of the studied language.
Activities targeting linguistic and cultural knowledge, but also discursive, functional and heuristic skills.
Translation of texts on general subjects and exercices in comparative linguistics.
Emphasis on specific problems inherent in the foreign language. Critical use of documentation and language reference materials available in the target language.
