Objectives of Programme's Learning Outcomes

  • Understand language of instruction and foreign languages (language skills)
    • Use French perfectly in a variety of non-technical situations, both orally and in writing
    • Understand, reformulate and summarise documents and presentations, in French, on various topics written by experts, including those related to current affairs
    • Communicate easily and adequately, in both selected foreign languages, at a minimum level of B2 in line with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • Understand and integrate cultural similarities and differences (cultural and intercultural skills)
    • Demonstrate real knowledge of the cultures of the studied languages
    • Identify cultural differences and talk about them
    • Be familiar with codes and conventions of other cultures for the sake of interpersonal relationships
  • Use everyday technology (technological skills)
    • Use standard office software tools and editorial assistance effectively
  • Use lexicographical resources and reference materials to lead linguistic mediation activities individually or as part of a team (professional skills)
    • Use printed or electronic dictionaries and reference materials appropriately
    • Reformulate, summarise, translate or interpret a document of general interest written or presented orally in a foreign language into French
    • Carry out, alone or in groups, activities or projects involving critical analysis
  • Conduct relevant research and report on it in a critical manner (cognitive skills)
    • Conduct targeted and reasoned documentary research in both the core language and the foreign languages studied
    • Assess the relevance and reliability of documentary sources used

Learning Outcomes of UE

At the end of this programme component, students will be able to:
- bring out the logical structure of a general text, written in Chinese;
- render the meaning of this text in a correct French;
- advisedly use dictionaries and reference documents.

UE Content: description and pedagogical relevance

Introduction to the basic translation principles and technologies.
Introduction to the translation of informative and pragmatic texts towards French, accessible at the B1 level of the CEFR.

T-CHIN-305Examination scored on 20 points based on the MQM model (Multidimensional Quality Metrics) and three criteria: accuracy and logic, quality of the target language, and consistency with the translation project.
Direct scoring to 6/20 after five French spelling or grammar mistakes.
Cumulative test (whose mark will be weighted at 70% in the final mark of the UE).
The subjects will be specified in a document that will be made available to students on the Moodle platform.
